The restoration of tourism in Uzbekistan will take place in three stages. At first, domestic tourism will resume, then regional and after that – inbound tourism, organized taking into account the situation with the pandemic, the Podrobno.uz correspondent reports.
Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism Development Aziz Abdukhakimov spoke about the republic’s plans to revive tourism within the framework of the International Online Tourism Conference “Path of Revival”.
As noted in the State Committee for Tourism, the conference was held on the initiative of the Republic of Uzbekistan and under the auspices of the World Tourism Organization.
The first stage of tourism recovery in Uzbekistan started on June 1. Domestic tourism resumes in regions with “green” and “yellow” quarantine levels. Tour operators, travel agencies, accommodation facilities, cultural objects, cultural heritage can start work subject to strict compliance with the established sanitary and hygienic standards and requirements.
Abdukhakimov said that during the quarantine, 63% of tour operators and 81% of accommodation facilities (hotels, hotels, hostels) in the republic suspended work. The first stage will be devoted to the reanimation of their activities through domestic tourism. Uzbekistan security system will be introduced. Safe travel GUARANTEED to prepare for the resumption of international inbound tourism.
The second stage of recovery
At the second stage, it is planned to restore organized regional tourism with neighboring countries and the CIS countries. The priority is the issues of compliance with safety measures, sanitary and hygienic requirements and social distancing measures along the entire route of tourist groups.
The Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism proposed to his colleagues in the region to create a joint rapid response group, as well as to get involved in the development of new combined thematic tours: gastronomic, vitamin, nomad tours, motorcycle tours, pilaf tours, archaeological and other tours that will pass along the tourist cities and centers of the region.
For this, the Silk Road Project platform has been created, which will promote not only the tourism potential of the Silk Road countries, but also promising regional tourism products and routes.
The gradual resumption of inbound tourism is scheduled for the third stage. At the same time, Uzbekistan will draw up a list of non-CIS countries, whose citizens are allowed to enter the republic, taking into account the situation with the pandemic.
The State Committee for Tourism is studying the experience of European and Asian countries emerging from the coronavirus pandemic crisis and preparing to open tourist markets. Based on the analysis, decisions will be made on the geography of the resumption of international flights to Uzbekistan.
Simultaneously with the issues of increasing the safety of local and foreign tourists, new thematic events are being developed: these are gastronomic festivals and actions, the “Element” music festival, “Akchakul” beach games, the harvest festival, the “third age tourism” week and others.
Aziz Abdukhakimov recalled that Bukhara was declared the capital of Islamic culture in 2020 and expressed hope that as the situation in the world improves and international tourism resumes, the republic will be able to hold a number of events in honor of this event, including the 2nd Forum of Pilgrim Tourism.
The current pandemic has once again emphasized the importance of digitalization and the introduction of IT technologies in the tourism industry, Abdukhakimov said, presenting three new resources at the conference.
“In general, Uzbekistan is introducing a new system of safe tourism, the rules of which will be quite simple and painless for all participants in the tourism industry. At the same time, the system offers targeted and effective tools for preventing disease at all stages of organizing travel,” said the head of the State Committee for Tourism.
